Head form, page (Zhonghua Book Company 1989 edition of the Kangxi Dictionary) and radical come from the Kangxi Dictionary. Strokes are counted in the traditional form, with radicals counted in full (氵 as 4, 扌 as 4, 艹 as 6). The element column is not in the Kangxi Dictionary: it is the modern name-study practice of assigning an element by radical (after the modern book Tujie Zhongguo Gudai Xingshi Wenhua); radicals with no element are marked “not assigned”.
Matching strokes to the 81 numbers is this site’s own rule; the classic has no such method (it draws the number with yarrow stalks and decides good and bad only at a further, finer level). The original text is copied from the Siku Quanshu edition of the Hongfan Huangji Neipian; the readings are written by this site.
This is not the modern name-study “81 stroke numbers” used by many company-name checkers online; results often differ. Grades follow only the favourable and unfavourable words in the text. Lines on illness, childbirth, marriage and lawsuits are shown as written; they are the classic’s words only and have no modern verified cases.
